Toyota announced the brand new 2019 Avalon at the 2018 Detroit North American International Auto Show and the new model comes with both the expected enhancements in style and sophistication. One of the most expected additions to the new model is Apple’s CarPlay platform which is a first for a Toyota car.
New for 2019, the fifth-generation Avalon comes with one very welcome surprise in the technology department.
Starting with the exterior design, the sedan is sleeker and more eye-catching than the outgoing model. Its design is not as aggressively sporty as the latest Camry, but it’s not entirely un-handsome.
Talking about the interior of the new Avalon, there is the leather stitching which looks incredible and the gorgeous center stack which floats above the dash and cascades down into the center console. Users will be able to interact with CarPlay through standard Entune 3.0 which features a 9-inch capacitive touchscreen. The 2019 Avalon features Wi-Fi hotspot, Alexa connectivity, Qi wireless charging, smartwatch integration, and of course Apple CarPlay as well as a crazy 10-inch head-up display.
The new model also includes Amazon Alexa compatibility using Toyota Remote Connect through which users can lock or unlock their doors and start their car through Alexa or a smartwatch.
Toyota reported that the new Avalon will go on sale in late spring of this year. The company will announce the pricing details and further information very soon. It looks like Toyota is not adding Android Auto integration at this time.
